Lymphomas
Introduction
Hello, welcome to this 13th class of the Hematology course provided by the University of Guanajuato. In this class we are going to review some basic concepts of lymphomas. They are a group of disorders characterized by the accumulation of abnormal white blood cells in the lymph nodes and in the bone marrow. They are divided into two main types: Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma, each one with particular characteristics. Hodgkin lymphoma has a special cell called the Redd-Sternberg cell, which Is used to diagnose this entity and to establish the evolution and prognostic of the patient. The non-Hodgkin lymphoma Is characterized by the size and shape of the cells. Also, some cell markers as well as some genetic changes and chromosomal translocations are used to diagnose these lymphomas.
