Planes a futuro
Presentación del tema
Hello!
Welcome to class 5 about plans and vacations, the topics on this lesson are marked in our program as follow:
8. Planes/ Vacaciones
Before I go on vacation, I always plan my trip. For starters, I usually take a look at travel guidebooks or go online and review possible destinations. Then, I check the costs involved in traveling to that particular place. If I’m going by plane, then I have to compare prices on airfare for different airlines. If I’m traveling by train, then I must look into train passes or tickets. I also need to locate hotel accommodations. Fortunately, I don’t mind staying at cheap hotels or even a youth hostel. Finally, I try to budget money for meals and other sightseeing expenses. If I plan carefully, I usually have a good time.
What advice can you give to someone who is planning to visit your country?
Could you include information about what to pack, accommodations, places to see?

8.1 Presente continuo con significado de futuro.
English speakers often use the present continuous tense (subject + ‘be’ = verb-ing) to talk about future arrangements.
A future arrangement is a plan that you have decided and organized with another person.
Subject + verb TO BE + verb –ing + complement + time expression
Then, using these in real life, imagine you are going to have a vacation and you are planning a trip. There are many arrangements for a trip that you and your friend are taking next week. Based on your itinerary you must use sentences in the Present continuous like: He is coming with me on a trip to the beach. We are leaving for the excursion next Monday. Our parents are booking to travel by plane. We are planning a nice holiday and a great tour.
8.2 Futuro
The simple future is a verb tense that is used to talk about things that haven’t happened yet. We use the simple future to talk about an action or condition that will begin and end in the future.
8.3 Will y going to
Depending in the certainty of the future event we can use two structures:
- Will
- Going to + verb (infinitive)
8.4 Expresiones de tiempo en futuro
Future time expressions: Tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, next week, month, year, later, later in the week, in an hour, soon, in the near future.

Resumen e ideas relevantes de la clase digital
Recuerda…
La diferencia en el uso de “will” o “be going to” es la probabilidad, acciones inciertas o promesas llevarán “will” mientras que “be going to” se usará para expresar planes o hechos contundentes a futuro y en el caso de que ya se hayan tomado acciones para que la acción futura suceda.
- Futuro simple (“will”) / presente simple de indicativo
a. We use the future simply with “will” to predict the future. It is the basic way we talk about the future in English, and we often use it if there is no reason to use another future tense. We can use it for future facts and for things that are less certain.
b. Promises / requests / refusals / offers. This is sometimes called “volitional” “will”. It’s about wanting to do something or not wanting to do something in the future.
In a similar way, we often use “will” when we’re talking about a decision at the moment of speaking. We are usually making an offer or promise or talking about something that we want to do.
c. We use the simple future with “will” in the first conditional, and in other sentences that have a conditional feeling.
Afirmativo | Negativo | Negativo contraído | Interrogativo |
I will go | I will not go | I won’t go | Will I go? |
You will go | You will not go | You won’t go | Will you go? |
She will go | She will not go | She won’t go | Will she go? |
He will go | He will not go | He won’t go | Will he go? |
It will go | It will not go | It won’t go | Will it go? |
We will go | We will not go | We won’t go | Will we go? |
You will go | You will not go | You won’t go | Will you go? |
They will go | They will not go | They won’t go | Will they go? |
-going to+ verb
It is also important to understand that we can also use another structure for the future when it is an action that is surely resulting.
a. We often use “be going to” to talk about our future intentions and plans. We have usually made our plans before the moment of speaking.
b. We can also use “be going to” to make a prediction about the future. Often it’s possible to use both “be going to” and “will” but it is more common to use “be going to” if we can see evidence in the present.
Going to + verb (infinitive)
